“Nothing new under the sun” is a phrase from Ecclesiastes 1:9 in the Bible, signifying that human experiences, inventions, and troubles are essentially repetitions of what has already existed.
Through Joshua’s Eyes
Standing at the Edge of Promise

I stood where my teacher once stood.
Moses had seen this land, but never walked it.
Now the wind carried the scent of it…
The land promised to our fathers—
To Abraham…
To Isaac…
To Jacob.
But what lay ahead was not empty land.
Giants occupied the promised land.
Fortified.
Defended.
And yes… inhabited by giants.
Chapter 1: The First Report — A Land That Devours
I remembered the first time we saw it.
We were twelve spies sent into the land. Only two of us—myself and Caleb—returned with faith.
The others returned with fear.
They spoke of:
- Cities with walls that reach the heavens
- Warriors trained for battle
- Men of great stature—the sons of Anak
They said:
“We were like grasshoppers in our own sight…”
And in that moment, the people chose fear over promise.
Forty years in the desert…
Because of one unfaithful decision.
Chapter 2: The Giants of the Land
This land was not just occupied—powerful peoples dominated it.
The Anakim (Giants of Renown)
Descendants of giants—feared across the land.
Their presence alone weakened the hearts of men.
The Nephilim
Echoes of ancient strength… spoken of even before the flood.
A reminder that this was no ordinary battle.
King Og of Bashan
A giant among giants. His bed alone was said to be massive—evidence of his size and power.
The Philistines
Masters of warfare… iron weapons… relentless fighters.
Their champion, Goliath, would later terrify an entire army.
Chapter 3: The Nations We Must Face
God did not hide the difficulty.
He named our enemies plainly.
“Seven nations greater and mightier than you…”
These included:
- The Hittites – Skilled builders and warriors
- The Amorites – Fierce and aggressive fighters
- The Canaanites – Occupants of fortified cities
- The Perizzites – Rural but numerous
- The Hivites – Strategists and deceivers
- The Jebusites – Holders of strongholds like Jerusalem
- The Girgashites – Lesser known, but no less present
This was not a peaceful entry.
This was a confrontation.
Chapter 4: The Walls of Jericho

The first city stood like a declaration:
“You shall not pass.”
Jericho—
A fortress.
Thick walls.
Sealed gates.
No army could break it.
But God did not ask for siege engines.
He asked for obedience.
Seven days…
Marching…
Silence…
Trumpets…
And then—
The walls fell.
Not by strength.
But by faith.
Chapter 5: The Real Battle
The greatest enemy was never the giants.
It was fear.
We had already lost once—not because of the Anakim…
But because we doubted.
Now, as I stood before the land again, I knew:
Victory would not come from numbers.
Or weapons.
But from obedience to God.
Chapter 6: The Land of Promise — Worth the Fight
This land was everything God said it would be:
- Flowing with milk and honey
- Rich soil and abundance
- A place for a nation to rise
But it was also:
- Contested
- Dangerous
- Demanding faith
The promise was real.
But so was the resistance.
Chapter 7: Joshua’s Resolve
I spoke to the people with everything in me:
“God commanded Joshua to be strong and courageous, to lead the Israelites across the Jordan River into the Promised Land, and to strictly obey the law.”
Not once.
Not twice.
But again and again.
Because courage would be required at every step.
The Jordan had to be crossed.
The walls had to fall.
The giants had to be faced.
And the promise had to be claimed.
Conclusion: The Lesson of the Promised Land
The Promised Land is not just a place.
It is a test.
A proving ground where:
- Faith is tested
- Fear is exposed
- Obedience is rewarded
The land was given.
But it still had to be taken.
The place God said was ours.
It’s not empty.
It’s not easy.
It’s not safe.
But it is promised.
And that makes it worth everything.
